things five and six

After much hemming and hawing, asking my genius son and willing husband, I have found a bit about RSS feeds. If I needed to keep up to the minute about the current news, this might be be useful. Previous to this experience I have used " Bookmarks" and "Favorites" to keep up with those web sites/ businesses/ friends/ articles/catalogues that I am interested in. The RSS seems like a duplication of that process.

During the exercise of Thing 6 I found a real puzzlement as to what a useful library related blog might be. Granted if I were to search/ click/ backup/ and otherwise search for hours and hours on the Internet I bet some interesting articles or resources could be found. Saying all that, I am doing these exercises at home, at the library where I WORK, my time is filled with discharging and displaying books/moving books as needed/helping patrons find books/ general housekeeping/ phone answering and such. How I can search the net for RSS feeds/ and interesting library blogs and meet the needs for our library patrons , is a serious conflict of priorities and interest.

reflections on life long learning

Well, well, well the old frustration factor is causing me much doubt and concern. I had written a nice long reflection on the 7 and a half things but it somehow never "made it" to the blog. So I will try again.
Life long learning is both a desire and a skill. These 23 things can give a serious opportunity to take responsibility for my own learning. Through the years I believe I have learned best by example and protocol then to use these experiences to take on new adventures. Several years ago I was determined to learn to drive a motorcycle. I studied, signed up for and took the state offered motor cycle safty course. With much assurance that since I could "ride a bike" and drive a "stick shift," driving a small motor cycle would be not problem. Well , it turns out that- balance.-coordination- trust in the power of a small motor and negotiating all this over several rainy cold days, was not a 'good fit'. I was not succesful.
I can set a goal, look at the problem as a challenge, and use the available technology. So it is with determination that I set out to "play" with these 23 things.

next entry

Here's Nick who is reviewing the cues to lifelong learning. While I must be resp0nsible for myself to create reasonable goals, I find that the new language of technology is an exercise in frustration sooooo... the aspect of developing confidence is an uphill climb.

first blog entry

Goodness me! maybe this old gal can plow through the details of this fancy technology. It is sort of fun yet seriously frustrating to enter information over and over again to set up e-mail and blog accounts. I'm looking forward to further exercises that may be "easier." Many of the younger patrons use blog and you-2 and face book sites, this is a NEW thing for me. The idea of learning more technology skills is great, I wonder how much I actually will come to use a "blog?"
